In 2009, Bishop David L. Ricken of Green Bay, Wisconsin, opened an official investigation of the October 1859 Marian apparitions to Sr. Adele Brise. The commission examined historical information on the apparitions and Sister Adele’s life, as well as the apparitions’ consistency with public revelation as safeguarded by the Catholic Church. On December 8, 2010, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Bishop Ricken declared that the events exhibit a supernatural character and are worthy of belief.
